UNIJOS Strengthens Collaboration with Plateau State Police Command Ahead of NUGA 2025
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya, along with members of the University Management, Alumni, and Sports Supporters, paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, on Monday, October 27, 2025, at his office in Jos.
The visit was aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration and seeking enhanced security support ahead of the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) 2025, which the University of Jos is set to host.
In his remarks, Professor Ishaya expressed appreciation to the Plateau State Police Command for its consistent support to the University over the years, particularly in maintaining the safety and security of staff and students. He disclosed that the University, with support from TETFund, has successfully secured funding to construct a fully furnished security post to be manned by officers of the Police Command, as part of efforts to deepen the existing partnership between both institutions.
The Vice-Chancellor further sought the Command’s continued support in providing robust security arrangements in and around the University during the NUGA Games, scheduled to hold from November 6 to 16, 2025.
He emphasized the need for adequate security coverage across all competition venues, athletes’ accommodation areas, and other critical locations. Professor Ishaya also formally informed the Commissioner of Police of his appointment as Chairman of the NUGA 2025 Security Sub-Committee, in recognition of his leadership and commitment to public safety.
In his response, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina assured the University of the Command’s full cooperation and readiness to provide comprehensive security support before, during, and after the Games. He commended the cordial working relationship between the Command and the University’s Acting Chief Security Officer, Mr. Agama Tangni, noting that the University has maintained an impressive record of discipline and peaceful conduct among its students.
The Commissioner also congratulated the University on the recent appointment of its former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN), as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing it as a reflection of UNIJOS’s strong national reputation.
CP Adesina reaffirmed the Plateau State Police Command’s commitment to working closely with the University to ensure a safe and successful hosting of NUGA 2025, and to further strengthen ongoing security collaborations between both institutions.
