UNIJOS Receives Solar-Powered Tricycles from TETFund Ahead of NUGA 2025

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has taken delivery of solar and electrically powered tricycles donated by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) as part of preparations for the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) 2025 competition, which the institution will host from 6th to 16th November 2025.

Receiving the tricycles on behalf of the University, the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Professor Tanko Ishaya, expressed appreciation to TETFund for the timely intervention. He described the donation as a significant contribution toward ensuring a smooth and successful hosting of the games.

According to Professor Tanko Ishaya, the eco-friendly tricycles, popularly known as Keke Napep, are designed to operate on both solar and electric power, and will be used to ease transportation within the campus during the event. They will facilitate movement for athletes, officials, and other participants across various venues.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the Fund’s commitment to sports development and sustainable mobility in Nigerian higher institutions. He reaffirmed UNIJOS’ readiness to host a memorable and environmentally responsible NUGA 2025, emphasizing that the adoption of solar-powered transport aligns with the University’s focus on innovation, sustainability, and green energy solutions.

The NUGA 2025 competition is projected to attract over 10,000 athletes from universities across the country to Jos, Plateau State, for what promises to be one of the most remarkable editions in recent years.
