Unijos Reaffirms Commitment to NUC Standards as University Signs MoU with Two Affiliated Institutions

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya, has reaffirmed the University’s unwavering commitment to upholding the regulatory standards of the National Universities Commission (NUC) in all academic collaborations and affiliations. This assurance came as the University formally signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with two institutions based in Jos, Plateau State.

The signing ceremony, held at the Vice-Chancellor’s Board Room, Naraguta Campus, marked new partnerships with the Federal College of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology, Jos, and the Evangel Theological Seminary, Jos.

In his remarks, Professor Ishaya emphasized that all University of Jos affiliations are governed strictly by NUC guidelines and are designed solely for the award of first degrees. He cautioned affiliated institutions against exceeding the approved scope of collaboration by offering postgraduate programmes, describing such actions as clear violations of both NUC regulations and University policy.

He emphasized that the NUC permits affiliations strictly for the production of first-degree graduates and urged partners to thoroughly acquaint themselves with the University’s academic policies and to ensure full compliance with university standards and those of its regulator.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that the University’s overarching goal is to produce high-quality graduates equipped to serve both the nation and the global community. He added that every partnership must reflect integrity, academic excellence, and adherence to established educational standards.

Also speaking at the event, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Rahila Gowon, outlined the obligations that affiliated institutions must fulfill and sustain throughout the duration of the partnership. She described the MoU as a binding and mutually beneficial agreement, commending both institutions for choosing to collaborate with the University of Jos in advancing human capacity development in Nigeria.

Professor Gowon further emphasized that the same regulatory framework applies uniformly to all affiliations across Nigerian universities, underscoring the importance of continuous compliance and quality assurance.

In their respective remarks, the Provost of the Federal College of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology, Jos, Professor Obong S. N. Etukudoh, and the President of Evangel Theological Seminary, Jos, Rev. Olusola Charles Oyeniran, PhD, expressed profound appreciation to the University of Jos for the opportunity to partner with it. They pledged to uphold all stipulated standards and maintain the integrity of the affiliation.

Both leaders commended the University for its long-standing reputation for academic excellence and for producing competent graduates who continue to make significant contributions to national and international development.

The ceremony culminated in the formal signing and exchange of the MoU documents, officially sealing the partnership between the University of Jos and the two affiliated institutions.
