UNIJOS RATED AMONG NIGERIA’S TOP 10 INSTITUTIONS IN LATEST WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGS
The University of Jos has been recognised as one of the top 10 Nigerian Universities by the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for 2026. This significant achievement places UniJos alongside four other renowned Nigerian institutions such as Ahmadu Bello University, University of Ilorin, Federal University of Technology, Minna, and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, within the global ranking bracket of 1201–1500.
In this year's evaluation, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings surveyed 2,191 institutions across 115 countries and the Universities were evaluated on 18 rigorous performance indicators spanning Teaching, Research, Research Environment, Industry Engagement, and International Outlook. This comprehensive analysis reflects significant shifts in global higher education, dissecting 174.9 million citations from 18.7 million Research Publications and incorporating insightful survey responses from over 108,000 Scholars worldwide.
In Nigeria, 51 universities earned a place in this distinguished ranking with UniJos standing prominently among the top nine (9) while 14 other Nigerian Universities fall into the 1501 and above classification, and 27 institutions remain unranked. This improvement highlights not only UniJos' enduring commitment to Academic excellence but also the continuous enhancement of Nigeria's presence in global higher education.
Globally sharing the 1201–1500 bracket with UniJos are esteemed institutions such as Canterbury Christ Church University in the UK, Oakland University, USA, Brock University in Canada, Changzhou University in China, Ankara University in Turkey, Aichi Medical University in Japan and Nelson Mandela University in South Africa.
The Times Higher Education is an independent and globally recognized entity, mandating comprehensive criteria for ranking institutions, including Undergraduate teaching, diverse research initiatives, and a requisite of at least 1,000 research publications from 2020 to 2024.
Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya expressed immense pride in this accomplishment.
