Prof. Joel N. Ndam

Work Experience: J.N. Ndam is currently a Professor in the Department of Mathematics of the University of Jos. He holds a Ph.D in Mathematics from the University of Jos, as well as an M.Phil in Applied Mathematics from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. He has held several academic and administrative positions in the University, including the Head of the Department of Mathematics and has recently been appointed the Chair Professor of the Pastor E.A. Adeboye’s Professorial Chair in Mathematics at the University. He is an editor of the Journal of the Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences and the African Journal of Natural Sciences, published by the Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences and Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Jos, respectively. He is a member of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria. His career in the University spans over twenty years, and he has taught all levels of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Specifically, he has taught courses in Elementary Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, Mathematical Modelling, Ordinary Differential Equations, and Partial Differential Equations at the undergraduate level. Prof. Ndam has been teaching courses in Biomathematics at the postgraduate level, and has supervised a number of postgraduate students at the Master and Ph.D levels.

Research Interest: Prof. Ndam’s main research areas are in Biomathematics, with special interests in Mathematical Ecology and Epidemiology. He also carries out research in the application of Fluid Mechanics in Medicine and the Physical Sciences. Specifically, Prof. Ndam’s current research involves

  1. Modelling the zoonotic transmission dynamics of malaria in human population

  2. Spatiotemporal malaria transmission in human and non-human populations

  3. Modelling the transmission dynamics of diseases induced by species interactions in the ecosystem

  4. Investigation of the co-dynamics of diseases with some pre-disposing factors
