DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS DR. PATRICK OPARA LAUNCHES NEW LITERARY WORK ON CONTEMPORARY EDUCATIONAL THOUGHT
The University of Jos community, alongside members of the Directorate of Alumni Relations and the University of Jos Alumni Association (UJAA), gathered on Wednesday, 30th September 2026, at the Law Auditorium, Bauchi Road Campus, for the presentation of the book titled Great Educators’ Ideas in a Contemporary World. The work was co-authored by distinguished alumnus Dr Patrick I. Opara in collaboration with Dr Augustus C. Odunze.
The occasion brought together prominent personalities, academics, alumni, and members of the University community to celebrate scholarship, intellectual engagement, and the enduring contributions of educators to society.
The event was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya FBCS FNCS, who was ably represented by the Director of the Directorate of Alumni Relations, Mr Naandye Dabugat. Also present at the gathering was the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Rahila Gowon represented by Professor O.O. Johnson. The Global President of the University of Jos Alumni Association, Dr Gad Shamaki, attended the ceremony alongside Prof. Vincent Ihemubeglem, Mr. Adoration Dashit, Senior Deputy Director and other senior members of the University.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor stressed that the book thoughtfully bridges the gap between timeless pedagogical theories and the dynamic realities of the modern age. He noted that by re-examining classic educational concepts through a contemporary lens, the authors provide clear insights into how educators can nurture critical thinking, foster resilience, and maintain intellectual integrity within today’s learning environments, concluding that the publication arrives at a most opportune moment.
Reviewing the book, Professor Desmond Uzoji highlighted the vital role of education and the exchange of ideas, emphasizing the need to continuously draw from the wisdom and experiences of great educators to address contemporary challenges. He observed that the book offers members of the academic community and alumni a valuable opportunity to reflect on the power of education in shaping individuals, strengthening institutions, and driving national development.
The presentation of Great Educators’ Ideas in a Contemporary World represents another meaningful contribution to academic discourse, reinforcing the importance of documenting and sharing insights capable of inspiring present and future generations of educators, students, and leaders.
The Directorate of Alumni Relations warm-heartedly congratulates Dr Patrick I. Opara on this notable intellectual achievement, and commends the University of Jos Alumni Association for its collaboration in bringing the event to fruition.
