UNIJOS VC HAILS BEROM NATION FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF WUROM TRUST FUND LEGACY PROJECT

Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya has commended the Berom Nation for embarking on the Wurom Trust Fund Legacy Project, describing it as a positive initiative which will boost the socio-economic value of the Berom people. The Vice-Chancellor gave the commendation in a speech during the Nzem Berom Jot Batoh Annual Festival, Jos North Local Government Area held at the Polo Field, Jos.

The Vice-Chancellor, who noted that the University of Jos has enjoyed a cordial working relationship and valuable support from Berom sons and daughters who are Staff, Students and Alumni of the University, described members of the Berom ethnic nationality as accommodating and hard-working, significantly contributing to the development of the University.

Professor Ishaya, who was Chairman of the occasion, congratulated the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman, Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, His Royal Highness, Da Jacob Gyang Buba for the successful hosting the 2024 Nzem Berom Jos North and celebrating his 15th anniversary on the throne, saying his reign has brought a lot of progress not just to the Berom Nation but to Plateau State at large.

The Vice-Chancellor commiserated with the entire Berom Nation over the loss of Gwom Kabong, Late Da Justice Gabriel Adamu Sha (Rtd) saying his demise is a big loss to the people, adding that his counsel would be greatly missed even as he prayed God to give his subjects and the Berom Nation fortitude to bear the unfortunate loss.

Speaking at the occasion, Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman, Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, Da Jacob Gyang Buba called for prayers for Berom Land and Plateau State at large, saying despite all the unfortunate events that have happened in the State, he is confident that God will lead Plateau State to victory according to His Glory.

While condoling the immediate family of Late Gwom Kabong, Justice Gabriel Adamu Sha (Rtd) and the Berom people of Jos North Local Government Area over the loss of the Late Traditional Ruler, the Royal Father called on Berom sons and daughters in Jos North to contribute immensely towards uplifting the rich cultural history of the Berom Nation. The Gbong Gwom also appreciated the Plateau Government for setting up the Committee that is reviewing complaints arising from the upgrade of Chiefdoms, Districts and Village Areas in the State, believing that the Committee will do a thorough job.

The Paramount Ruler commended the Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya for always identifying with the Berom Nation and availing their Sons and Daughters the opportunity to serve the University in various capacities ranging from Teaching, Academic Research and Community Services. Da Jacob Gyang Buba urged the youth to desist from criminal activities but rather engage in activities that promote the good identity of Berom people, further advocating for a Tree Planting Campaign among the people to bring back the natural beauty of their environment.

Earlier in welcome address, Plateau State Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Town Planning, Hon. (Barr.) Peter Nyam Gai appreciated the satisfactory turn out of the people to witness the event and called on the people to be committed to God in prayers for the peace and growth of their land.

Goodwill messages came from the Member representing Bassa/Jos North Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Daniel Asama, Chairman, Transition Implementation Committee (TIC), Jos North Local Government Area, Hon. Samuel Dala Umaru, Professor Ishaya Pam, some Traditional Title Holders from Jos North Local Government Area, among many others.

The 2024 Nzem Berom Cultural Festival featured special prayers for the family of the Late Gwom Kabong, Justice Gabriel Adamu Sha (Rtd) and His Majesty, Gbong Gwom Jos, for a peaceful and impactful reign, exhibition as well as symbolic planting of trees performed by Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba and the Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya.

The event was well attended by prominent Sons and Daughters and Berom Land including the President, Berom Community Organization (BECO) Worldwide, Da Gyang Dudu Dalyop, BECO Chairman, Jos North LGA, Associate Professor Davou Nyam, and other invited guests.
