Professor Mathilda Edmund Banwat, MBBS, FWACP, FMCPH, M.Sc., Ph.D., is a Professor of Public Health Nutrition and Consultant, Jos University Teaching Hospital, Jos, Nigeria
Professor Mathilda Edmund Banwat is a medical doctor, consultant, and academic leader specializing in Public Health Nutrition and Child Health. She earned her MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 2001, M.Sc. in International Medicine from the University of Liverpool in 2013, Ph.D. from Texila American University in 2013, Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians (FWACP, 2013), and Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in Public Health (FMCPH, 2009).
She joined the University of Jos in 2007 as Lecturer II and rose through the ranks to become Professor of Public Health Nutrition in 2019. Over her career, she has supervised more than 40 Master’s students across the University of Jos and Ahmadu Bello University distance learning programs, trained five consultants to fellowship level in the Nigerian Postgraduate Medical College, and is currently supervising five PhD candidates at Texila American University and the University of Port Harcourt.
Professor Banwat has published over 55 peer-reviewed articles in reputable national and international journals and contributed significantly to advancing knowledge in public health nutrition, child health, and community medicine. Her academic interests include research capacity development, mentorship, and strengthening healthcare systems through evidence-based practice.
She hails from Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria. Beyond her professional commitments, she enjoys reading and knitting. She is married with children.
