NAPSS HONOURS VC PROF. TANKO ISHAYA FOR TURNING UNIJOS INTO THE MOST PREFERRED DESTINATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The National Association of Plateau State Students (NAPSS), Unijos Chapter has honoured the Vice Chancellor Professor Tanko Ishaya FBCS FNCS with the ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE AWARD for making the University of Jos a favourite destination for foreign students.
This award was presented to the VC at the Association's Annual Cultural Day which held on Saturday 27 June 2026 at the Faculty of Social Sciences Auditorium, Naraguta Campus.
Earlier, the Executive Committee of the association paid a Courtesy call on the VC, where they also enumerated additional reasons for presenting the award to him:
* Cordial relationship between Management and Students, even when there are areas of disagreement.
* For successfully hosting the 27th Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) Games, for the first time, not just in Unijos, but in North Central Nigeria
VCs Response
The Vice Chancellor thanked NAPSS for the award emphasising that it is special to him, because it's coming from students, who are the direct beneficiaries of any University administration. He commended them for promoting the rich and vibrant culture of the Plateau people, noting that people who neglect their culture are courting extinction.
He advised them to be wary of being used by politicians for selfish purposes, especially as the general elections are around the corner.
Accompanying the Vice Chancellor to receive the award is his wife Justice Sharon Ishaya. The Dean Students Affairs, Professor Chris Piwuna, among so many other guests, witnessed the occasion.
