TELL MAGAZINE NAMES UNIJOS VICE CHANCELLOR AMONG NIGERIA'S 20 BEST PERFORMING VICE CHANCELLORS

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya, FBCS, FNCS, has been named by TELL Magazine among the 20 Best Performing Vice-Chancellors in Nigeria.

The announcement published in the Magazine's June 12 to July 1 2026 special  Edition titled " _Integrity in Leadership: 20 Best Performing Vice Chancellors in Nigeria_ ," recognized 20 distinguished academic leaders.

According to the reputable publication, the selection was based on integrity, effective leadership, and outstanding contributions to tertiary education in Nigeria.

TELL Magazine highlighted several landmark achievements under Prof. Tanko’s leadership, including:

1. Global Recognition: The University of Jos was ranked among the *Top 10 Nigerian Universities* in the prestigious _Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026_, which evaluated 2,191 institutions across 115 countries on 18 performance indicators covering Teaching, Research, Industry Engagement, and International Outlook.

2. Centres of Excellence: Facilitating the naming of UNIJOS by the Federal Ministry of Education as one of *ten Centres of Excellence in Sports* nationwide.

3. Tech & Innovation: Facilitating the establishment of the *UNIJOS Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence, Digital Forensics, and Cybersecurity*.

4. Sports Excellence: Successfully hosting the memorable *27th NUGA Games*, where the University of Jos emerged 2nd overall.

Reacting to the recognition, Professor Tanko dedicated the honour to the entire UNIJOS community.

“This recognition belongs to all staff, students, alumni, and stakeholders of UNIJOS. We remain committed to Discipline and Dedication as we build a university that competes globally and serves locally,” he said.
