UNIJOS Reaffirms Commitment, Strengthens Partnerships, and Charges Contractors Ahead of NUGA 2025
With preparations in full swing for the 27th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) slated for November 5–16, 2025, the University of Jos (UNIJOS) has reaffirmed its commitment to hosting a world-class event that will not only celebrate athletic excellence but also leave a lasting legacy for sports development in Nigeria and beyond.
The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Tanko Ishaya, gave this assurance during an inspection tour of the facilities being prepared for the Games. While expressing satisfaction with the progress and quality of work so far, he charged the contractors handling the various projects to intensify their efforts and deliver nothing short of excellence.
While commending the level of work done, Professor Ishaya added that this is not the time to relax “We want NUGA 2025 to be remembered not just for medals won, but for the memories created, the friendships built, and the standards set for future Games.”
Earlier, at a stakeholders’ meeting, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized the importance of collective effort and unwavering dedication to the success of the Games. He noted that the sports industry in Nigeria is still evolving, and the University of Jos intends to use NUGA 2025 as a springboard for building a legacy that will inspire generations to come.
While commending the milestones already achieved, particularly the completion of the security post, volleyball and basketball courts, squash court, as well as the taekwondo gymnasium, and many others near completion, Professor Ishaya praised the dedication of the Local Organising Committee and the support from various partners.
The Committee, comprising passionate individuals from the University and beyond, continues to strengthen collaborations with corporate organizations, government agencies, and well-meaning individuals to ensure a memorable event. Discussions also touched on post-NUGA plans, focusing on how the newly developed facilities will serve as training hubs for athletes and contribute to the long-term growth of the Nigerian sports industry.
As the countdown to NUGA 2025 officially begins, preparations are shifting into high gear. With the famously cool and welcoming weather of Jos, often described as “nature’s own air conditioner”, athletes and spectators can look forward to a refreshing experience. If enthusiasm were a sport, the University of Jos would already be leading the medal table.
NUGA 2025 promises to be more than just a competition, it will be a celebration of talent, teamwork, and the spirit of unity that defines Nigerian universities.
