UNIJOS 600L VET. MEDICINE STUDENT, JANET NALLUM GALADIMA EMERGES NATIONAL CHAMPION AT MAIDEN IKORE-GALVmed VITAL COMPETITION, WINS N1M PRIZE

In a fiercely contested national academic competition, a 600-level student of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Jos, Miss Janet Nallum Galadima, has emerged the overall best in the country, bringing honour and pride to the University.

Presenting the winner to the University Management, the Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Professor Pwaveno H. Bamayi, explained that the competition commenced with preliminary proposals and presentations at the faculty level across 11 Faculties of Veterinary Medicine in Nigerian universities. The exercise culminated in the National Finals held on 16th September, 2026, at the Barcelona Hotel, Abuja.

According to Professor Bamayi, Miss Galadima, who represented the University of Jos, distinguished herself through two highly demanding phases of the contest. The first was a rapid-fire question series where she answered 16 questions in one minute, followed by a seven-minute presentation on the topic: “Why government-led vaccination programmes have struggled to control preventable ruminant diseases in Nigeria.”

He added that Miss Galadima's depth of knowledge, eloquence and confidence earned her the top prize and a cash award of One Million Naira (N1,000,000).

Her victory has been described as a testament to the quality of training in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the University of Jos at large.

Expressing gratitude, Miss Galadima appreciated the University of Jos, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and its staff for providing her the platform to showcase her talent, a gesture she said she remains grateful for.

Reacting to the feat while welcoming the winner, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya, congratulated Miss Galadima for making the University proud on a national stage.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that the University is immensely proud of her outstanding achievement, noting that her success is not just a personal victory but a victory for the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the entire University community.

Professor Ishaya further said her victory has demonstrated academic excellence, courage and the true spirit of a Josite, adding that by emerging the best in the country in such a fiercely contested event, she has proven herself a worthy ambassador of the University.

On behalf of Management, Senate, Staff and Students, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated her and urged other students to emulate her dedication and brilliance.

He also congratulated the Dean, staff and students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for providing the enabling environment for the success.
