Professor Christopher Yilgwan, MBBS, FWACP (Paediatrics), PhD, is a Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Jos and Consultant Paediatrician at the Jos University Teaching Hospital, Jos Nigeria.
Professor Yilgwan is a clinical epidemiologist and physician-scientist specializing in cardiovascular health, with over 15 years of experience in public health research addressing infectious diseases and social determinants of health. He obtained his MBBS from the University of Jos in 2003, Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians (Paediatrics), and PhD in Public Health from Walden University, Minneapolis, in 2020.
He has served as co-investigator in major international studies, including the Rheumatic Heart Disease Global Registry (REMEDY) and the RHDGen genetics study, and was country Principal Investigator for WHO-supported COVID-19 mortality reviews across 13 Nigerian states. Currently, he is a member of the NIH National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s Rheumatic Heart Disease Technical Working Group, where he contributes to shaping global strategies for cardiovascular health.
Professor Yilgwan leads community-based research initiatives aimed at preventing rheumatic heart disease and improving cardiovascular outcomes in underserved populations. He is also a dedicated mentor to young academics across Africa and actively engaged in health policy formulation and implementation at national and international levels.
