Dr. Courage Uhunmwangho, MBBS, M.Sc., FWACP, FRCP (London) is a reader in Medicine & Rheumatology and Consultant Rheumatologist at the University of Jos, Jos University Teaching Hospital, Jos, Nigeria.
Dr. Courage Uhunmwangho is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Rheumatology at the University of Jos and Consultant Rheumatologist at Jos University Teaching Hospital. He obtained his MBBS from the University of Jos in 2005, M.Sc. in Clinical Epidemiology in 2021, and Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians (FWACP) in 2015. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP, London).
At the University of Jos, he serves as Level Coordinator for fourth-year medical students in the Department of Medicine, while at JUTH he heads the Rheumatology Unit, leading patient care, specialist training, and research activities. He also chairs the Rheumatology Sub-specialty Faculty of the West African College of Physicians.
His research focuses on the epidemiology, burden, and outcomes of musculoskeletal diseases in African populations, including community-based COPCORD surveys and rheumatology registry development. He is Principal Investigator for the Rheumatoid Arthritis Registry in Nigeria (RHARIN) and the Lupus Registry in Nigeria (LURIN).
Dr. Uhunmwangho is actively engaged in advancing rheumatology care, education, and systems across Africa. He serves on the Executive Committee of the International League of Associations for Rheumatology (ILAR), is President-Elect of the African League of Associations for Rheumatology (AFLAR), and Editor-in-Chief of the African Journal for Rheumatology (AJR). He has authored and co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and maintains extensive national and international research collaborations.
