Professor Ishaya Ibrahim Abok is a clinician-scientist, paediatric endocrinologist, medical educator, and academic leader with a strong commitment to advancing child health and strengthening healthcare systems in Nigeria. He obtained his MBBS from the University of Jos in 2003, Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians in Paediatrics in 2012, and an ESPE Clinical Fellowship in Paediatric Endocrinology at PETCA Nairobi in 2014. He further earned MSc degrees in Paediatric Endocrinology (2018) and Clinical Epidemiology (2019). He was appointed Professor of Paediatrics in 2022.
His research focuses on paediatric endocrinology, childhood diabetes, growth and puberty, thyroid and adrenal disorders, vitamin D deficiency, sickle cell disease, metabolic health, and outcomes among hospitalised children. He leads multidisciplinary and collaborative projects that generate locally relevant evidence and translate findings into improved paediatric care. He is currently Principal Investigator of a sponsored project implementing endocrine screening for children with sickle cell disease.
Professor Abok serves as Editor-in-Chief of the African Journal of Paediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism. His leadership interests include medical education, mentorship, research capacity development, innovation, and strengthening clinical training and healthcare delivery.
