Professor Francis Ajang Magaji, MBBS, FWACS, FMCOG, M.Sc., MSHA, is a Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist University of Jos | Jos University Teaching Hospital, Jos, Nigderia.
Professor Francis Ajang Magaji is a specialty-trained obstetrician and gynaecologist with expertise in gynaecological oncology, reproductive science, and health analytics. He earned his MBBS from the University of Jos in 2001, Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS, 2008), Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCOG, 2010), M.Sc. in Reproductive Science from the University of Jos (2021), and a Master’s in Health Analytics from Northwestern University, Chicago (2023).
His research interests focus on gynaecological cancers, reproductive health, and the application of health analytics to improve patient outcomes. He is currently a D43 NIH/Fogarty Fellow in HIV-associated cancer research and a collaborator on the NIH/NCI U01 West African HPV self-sampling project.
Prior to joining the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology as faculty, Professor Magaji served as Program Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the Plateau State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (2010–2016). In this role, he coordinated HIV/AIDS operational research, surveys, and prevention programs at both state and national levels, leading a multidisciplinary response team that achieved a significant reduction in HIV burden in Plateau State.
Professor Magaji continues to combine clinical practice, academic leadership, and translational research to advance women’s health and strengthen healthcare systems in Nigeria and beyond.
