Professor Joshua Sunday is Professor of Computational Mathematics and the Head, Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Jos, Nigeria
Professor Joshua Sunday is an accomplished scholar in Computational Mathematics, with expertise in numerical analysis, mathematical modelling, optimization, and biomathematics. He holds a Ph.D. in Computational Mathematics from Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, an M.Sc. in Computational Mathematics (with Distinction) from the University of Ado‑Ekiti, and a B.Sc. in Mathematics (First Class Honours) from Adamawa State University, Mubi.
His research focuses on the development of advanced numerical algorithms for solving ordinary and partial differential equations, stiff systems, chaotic models, and fuzzy differential equations. He has published extensively in indexed international journals and contributed to textbooks, including Advanced Numerical Analysis and chapters in Recent Developments in the Solution of Nonlinear Differential Equations. His work has attracted multiple international research grants, including funding from Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Nigeria’s TETFund.
Professor Sunday has supervised numerous undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral theses, producing a new generation of mathematicians and computational scientists. He has served as external examiner and assessor for universities in Nigeria, South Africa, Malaysia, and Indonesia, and has been a member of several National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation panels.
At the University of Jos, he has held key academic and administrative roles including Level Coordinator, Postgraduate Coordinator, Seminar Coordinator, and currently serves as Head of the Department of Mathematics. He is also a Visiting Professor at Plateau State University, Bokkos.
He is a member of the London Mathematical Society (LMS), the Nigerian Mathematical Society (NMS), and the Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN), and has contributed as editor and reviewer for several international journals. His career reflects a strong commitment to academic excellence, innovative research, and advancing mathematics education in Nigeria and beyond.
