Dr. Shangkum Yildun Goji
Senior Lecturer

Dr. Shangkum Yildun Goji is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry, University of Jos Specialization: Inorganic and Materials Chemistry

Dr. Shangkum Yildun Goji is a dedicated scholar in inorganic and materials chemistry, with research interests spanning nanomaterials, membrane science, and environmental remediation. He leads innovative studies on the synthesis and application of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), engineered biochar, and composite materials for water purification, pollutant removal, and sustainable fertilizer development. His work integrates advanced materials chemistry with practical solutions to global challenges in agriculture, energy, and environmental sustainability.

Dr. Goji earned his Ph.D. in Materials Chemistry from the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) in 2019, following an MSc in Applied Inorganic Chemistry (2014) and a BSc in Industrial Chemistry (2008) from the University of Jos. He has held academic positions at the University of Jos since 2011, progressing from Graduate Assistant to Lecturer I, and has served as a Research Assistant at JAIST.

He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, including RSC Advances, Membranes, and the Nigerian Journal of Materials Science and Engineering, and has presented his work at international conferences in Japan, Nigeria, and beyond. His contributions include pioneering research on nanofiltration membranes, MOF-based adsorbents, and slow-release fertilizers, with several ongoing projects funded by TETFund and international collaborations.

At the University of Jos, Dr. Goji has supervised numerous undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral projects, fostering the next generation of chemists. He has also served in key academic roles such as Examination Officer, Level Coordinator, and Undergraduate Project Coordinator. His professional affiliations include membership in the Chemical Society of Nigeria, Polymer Institute of Nigeria, African Membranes Society, Biochar Initiative of Nigeria, and African Materials Research Society.

Beyond academia, Dr. Goji contributes actively to community development, serving as Secretary General and Patron in various associations and foundations. He is married with four children and remains committed to advancing science, education, and societal well-being.
