About the Faculty

 

The Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Jos is committed to excellence in agricultural education, research, and innovation. Established to address the pressing challenges of food security, rural development, and environmental sustainability, the Faculty provides a dynamic learning environment that prepares graduates to be leaders in agricultural transformation both nationally and globally.

The Faculty offers four core academic programs: Animal Production, Crop Production, Agricultural Economics and Extension. Together, these programs equip students with the knowledge and skills to advance livestock science, crop improvement, agribusiness, policy analysis, rural development, and farmer education, while fostering innovation in sustainable agricultural practices.

Mission

The Faculty of Agriculture seeks to provide high-quality training in agricultural sciences, conduct impactful research that addresses national and global challenges, foster partnerships with industry, government, and communities for the practical application of innovations, and promote entrepreneurship, agribusiness, and extension services as pathways to rural empowerment and economic growth.

Philosopy

The Faculty of Agriculture is guided by the philosophy that agriculture is the backbone of national development and a vital instrument for poverty reduction, food security, and environmental sustainability. By integrating traditional knowledge with modern science, fostering innovation, and cultivating ethical leadership, the Faculty produces graduates who are globally competitive and locally relevant.
