I welcome you to the webpage of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Jos, Jos, Nigeria. This Faculty started in the year 2014 with the admission of the first set of under-graduate students who graduated in 2022 with the Induction (Oath-Taking Ceremony) taking place on the 24th November, 2022 at the Faculty’s multipurpose auditorium.

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine currently has seven (7) well-equipped Departments and a well-equipped Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The Faculty comprises forty-two Full Time Academic Staff and several Visiting and Sabbatical Staff with many Administrative and Technical Staff in each Department and the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. We run the undergraduate Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Programme. We also run postgraduate programmes in all the various Departments.

The research focus of the Faculty is “Diagnostics, Drug and Vaccine Research and Development”. The Faculty currently has three research grants focusing on Vaccine Research and Development. Other research themes and teams are evolving to include many more staff and students of the Faculty.

The vision of the Faculty is “To become a Centre of Excellence for training, developing and maintaining a reputation for research and extension in Veterinary Medicine”. In order to achieve this the mission of the Faculty “is to provide excellent training opportunities for students and practitioners in the field of animal health and production with the overall goal of producing highly-skilled manpower in order to boost animal productivity and contribute to National development and be globally competitive”.

This Faculty aims to achieve excellence in teaching, research and community development and to ensure that our products are among the best in the world. Staff and students of this faculty have won local and international awards and grants and more laurels are on the way. We keep exploring the heights and conquering the heights to achieve the zenith of excellence in the field of Veterinary Medicine. All things are possible and even impossible says I’m possible as we stand on the shoulders of giants.
