Personal Statement
The proposed study is aimed at determining the drug resistance patterns of enteric bacteria associated with HIV-1 infected subjects in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria and profiling their resistant DNA plasmids. Specifically, we aim at identifying the drug susceptibility profile of the bacterial agents identified, as these could adversely impact treatment efforts. In my capacity as mentor, we would work together to ensure that the results of this study directly impacts treatment strategies and ultimately extend the life of the subjects. I have been teaching and conducting research in various fields of microbiology spanning over 20 years. I have also supervised over 70 undergraduate projects and recently postgraduate projects. My research experience has also been strengthened through the post doctoral research experience at the IHV, when I undertook various courses with credit in the conduct of clinical research and responsible conduct of research. I undertook courses in graduate immunology, molecular epidemiology and Vaccinology. In addition, I have experience with research administration, by managing a donor funded institutional strengthening grant.
