Dr. Ruth A. Irmiya was born to the family of Ati Iku Adado and Mama Joyce Kudu all of blessed memory in Bubit District of Bassa L.G.A of Rukuba chiefdom, Plateau state Nigeria. She attended SIM ECWA primary school Jos and obtained her first school leaving certificate in 1978. After her secondary school Education in Lafia- Obi were she wrote her G.C.E around 1983, she decided to proceed to college of Education Akwanga, Nassarawa state for her National Certificate in Education (N.C.E) in 1985. Later in 1989 she gained admission through Direct Entry to study Social Studies at A.B.U Zaria the famous citadel of knowledge in Northern Nigeria. This did not deter her from pursuing her educational career in teaching consequently she went to University of Jos where she also obtained an M.Ed Degree in Social Studies.

There started in 2004, she was employed at University of Jos as an Assistant Lecturer in Social Studies, Faculty of Education. Her responsibilities cut-across Teaching, Research and Community development. However, with the much desired mentorship and experiences, which she received she rose to the rank of a lecturer II and decided to enroll for a Ph.D. programme in Social Studies around 2005/2006 academic session. And in 2016 she successfully defended and obtained a Ph.D. in the said discipline above. She has held several positions in the faculty ranging from a level coordinator, Student Adviser, committee member of PG Board, Examination Scrutiny, Editorial Adviser of the International Journal of Social Science Education, Curriculum development Committee and Teaching practice coordinator in the department. She was also a Head of Department between 2017 – 2019 and has held several other adhoc positions till date. She was also the Review of certification process / guidelines development and member committee on Implementation of Innovative master Trainers in Industrial Training Fund (ITF) during her sabbatical leave in that agency. She is currently a Reader in Social Studies Education but awaiting her confirmation to full chair professor in the same career. She belongs to several professional bodies namely, SOSAN, NISEP, TRCN, CON, NAWACS, NASHER, SOSCEAN, NCSS just to mention but a few. She teaches several courses for both undergraduate, Master and Ph.D. to her Credit and has supervised several projects, thesis and currently awaiting graduation of some of her Ph.D. students to the glory of God. Dr. Ruth A Imriya has published widely both National and internationally and to her credit she has 45 Articles in circulation for the furtherance of knowledge and career development in society.

She has equally participated in a lot of community development and other literacy awareness programmes especially, the UNIFPA population and family life Education as well as Research and Training. She is married to Elder Reuben Akawu Irmiya a Retired and seasoned Banker and they are blessed with five (5) children and two (2) grand – children. Most importantly, she has obtained some scholastic Honours and Academic Awards of recognition in the process of her career service. Her areas of interest are in social studies curriculum development, methodology and teaching Approaches. Other are peace and conflict Resolution and Gender issues and generally areas of Improvement in Educational Management and Teaching Skills in Social Studies Education.
