    Admission Requirements


    1. Postgraduate Degrees in The Department:
      1. MSc. Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery
      2. MSc. Veterinary Anaesthesia
      3. MPhil/PhD. Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery
      4. MPhil/Phd. Veterinary Anaesthesia
      5. M.Sc. Veterinary Orthopaedic Surgery
      6. MPHil/Ph.D. Veterinary Orthopaedic Surgery

Departmental Admission Requirement:

To qualify for admission into the M.Sc. programme of the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, the applicants must have obtained Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from this university (University of Jos) or any other university recognised by the Senate.

For PhD programme, a candidate shall have obtained an M.Sc. degree after passing relevant taught courses and research from this university (University of Jos) or its equivalent from any other university recognized by the Senate in relevant disciplines (Veterinary Surgery, Veterinary Anaesthesiology and Veterinary Radiology) with a CGPA of at least 3.5 (5.0 scale) or 3.0 (4.0 scale).

Requirement for Award of the Degree:

To qualify for the award of M.Sc. degree, a student must have completed and passed courses totalling a minimum of 25 credit units excluding Thesis of 12 units, presented and passed the two seminars.

For a PhD award, a student must have completed and passed all the course work of 45 credit units, presented and passed the two seminars, and also written and passed a dissertation of 18 credit units.

MSc. Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery and PhD. Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery

This program is designed at the MSc. Level to provide an initial level of specialization for veterinarians intending to become soft tissue surgeons, instructors in soft tissue surgery, researchers or those intending to proceed with a Ph.D. in this specialty. Veterinarians so trained are expected to be capable of performing challenging soft tissue surgeries, delivering instructions in soft tissue surgery as well as be able to organize basic researches in this specialty.

MSc. Veterinary Orthopaedic Surgery and PhD. Veterinary Orthopaedic Surgery

This program is designed at the MSc. level to provide an initial level of specialization for veterinarians intending to become orthopedic surgeons, instructors in orthopedic surgery, researchers in orthopaedics or those intending to proceed with a PhD in this specialty. Veterinarians so trained are expected to be capable of performing challenging orthopedic surgeries, delivering instructions in orthopaedics as well as be able to organize researches in orthopaedics.

MSc. Veterinary Anaesthesia and Phd. Veterinary Anaesthesia

This program is designed at the MSc. level to provide an initial level of specialization for veterinarians intending to become anaesthetists and Wildlife practitioners, instructors in anaesthesiology, pain management and Wildlife. Researchers or those intending to proceed with a Ph.D. in this specialty. Recent developments in which a lot more individuals, Institutions, Zoos, Wildlife Conservation establishments are acquiring and maintaining a large number and variety of wildlife has resulted in a dramatic rise in the number of such cases presented for and needing veterinary attention. In all these situations wildlife immobilization is frequently encountered. Even though an increasing number of these cases are encountered, any form of training in wildlife practice generally, must entail a trip out of the country.
