MSC. MEDICAL MICROBIOLOGY DEGREE PROGRAMME

Eligibility (Entry Requirements)

The University of Jos General regulations for higher degrees shall apply. Specifically; the regulations Governing Higher Degrees and Diplomas of the University of Jos stipulate that a good first degree from the University of Jos or other approved Universities in the relevant fields and professional qualifications approved by the Senate on the recommendation of the Postgraduate Board is required for entry into this programme including five (5) credits in relevant subjects at school certificate level.

        1. A good B.Sc or BMLS. (Hons.) Degree (usually first-class or second-class division) in medical microbiology, medical laboratory sciences or in biological sciences or other relevant sciences of the University of Jos or from other approved universities
        2. MB.BS, or DVM Degree (or their equivalent) of the University of Jos or from otherapproved universities.
        3. F.I.M.L.S. Microbiology and related disciplines (e.g. bacteriology) with a least 2 years post-qualification experience and evidence of participation in research and/or joint authorship of publications in relevant areas of specialization.

DURATION OF STUDY

This programme shall run on a full-time basis for a minimum period of 18 calendar months and a maximum of 24 months.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT:

M.Sc. Medical Microbiology programme consists of coursework and a project report based on a research project. Consequently, the relevant provisions of the Regulations Governing Higher Degrees and Diplomas for Master’s degree programmes primarily by coursework shall apply. To qualify for the award of the degree a candidate must earn a minimum of 24 credits, including a research project (4 credits) and other compulsory courses. The Project report shall be orally defended before a panel incorporating an external examiner.
