Philosophy And Objectives

The philosophy of the Faculty is, first and foremost, designed within the context of the general philosophy of the University of Jos that education should be inter-disciplinary. Accordingly, students of the faculty are required to take a number of non-Law electives courses from other faculties, notably, Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Arts. Furthermore, it is a compulsory requirement that all Law students register, take and pass examinations in the courses run by the department of General Studies of the University. With the University. With the N.U.C Minimum Guidelines, Law students are also required to take courses in computer.

Specialy, the philosophy of the Faculty is that legal education should not only prepare the student towards the membership of the legal profession or only concentrate on giving him technical skills or providing him with a rigid body of legal formular and information. Rather, legal education should be a challenge and a stimulant for the student to examine the functioning of the society in which he is a member and to understand human nature. It should be an intellectual exercise designed to apply the rules of law in their historical and social context, especially in resolving day to day conflicts.
