MINISTER OF EDUCATION DEFIES RAINSTORM TO COMMISSION NEW ADVANCEMENT OFFICE

The University of Jos received a pat on the back in September 2005 for establishing an Advancement office. The Minister of Education, Mrs. Chinwe Obaji, who performed the commissioning of the new office amidst a heavy downpour of rain, said that the Federal Government is supportive of innovations that will meet the challenge of revamping and repositioning the educational system in Nigeria. “The goal of the present administration is to establish and sustain a university system that is adequately equipped, responsive and among the best in the world” she pledged.

While commending the vision and mission of the University administration, the Minister called on other Nigerian universities and tertiary institutions to emulate the laudable initiative of the University

Governor Joshua Dariye of Plateau State, represented by his Deputy, Chief Michael Botmang, promised the state government’s support towards the progress of the university.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Monday Mangvwat remarked that the commissioning of the Advancement Office is a dream come true. He explained that the University in July 2003 received a 2 million dollar grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York, to implement some projects including the setting up of an Advancement Office.

The colorful ceremony was witnessed by dignitaries from all walks of life, who equally defied the heavy rain. To spice up the day, various performing groups entertained guests.
Not even the heavy down pour which blew off canopies, could stop the tape from being cut and the plaque unveiled. Cold and wet, the dignitaries shared in the joy of the formal opening of the University of Jos Advancement Office, the first of its kind in Nigeria.
